What is Tarkka and how does it work? expand_more

Tarkka is a free mobile app that helps you save money on groceries in Finland. Simply create a shopping list, select your nearby stores, and Tarkka will show you where to buy your groceries for the lowest total price. The app compares prices across all major Finnish retailers including K-Ruoka (Kesko), S-Kaupat (S-Group), and Tokmanni.

Do I need to create an account? expand_more

No! Tarkka is completely privacy-focused and does not require any account creation. There's no email, no password, and no personal information needed. Simply download the app and start comparing prices immediately. Your shopping lists are stored locally on your device only.

Which stores does Tarkka support? expand_more

We support:
• K-Ruoka (Kesko/K-Group): K-Citymarket, K-Supermarket, K-Market
• S-Kaupat (S-Group): Prisma, S-Market, Alepa, Sale
• Tokmanni (coming soon)

How do I select my nearby stores? expand_more

1. Open the app and go to Settings (bottom navigation)
2. Tap on "My Stores" or "Location"
3. Select your city from the list
4. Choose which specific stores near you to compare prices from
5. Your selections are saved automatically

Shopping Lists & Product Search

How do I create a shopping list? expand_more

1. Tap the "Search" tab in the bottom navigation
2. Search for products by name or browse categories
3. Tap the "+" button on any product to add it to your list
4. You can also scan barcodes using the scanner icon
5. View your complete list in the "List" tab

How does the barcode scanner work? expand_more

1. Tap the barcode scanner icon in the top-right of the Search screen
2. Point your camera at the product's barcode
3. The app will automatically detect and search for the product
4. You can then add it to your shopping list or view price details

Note: Your device needs camera permission for the scanner to work.

How do I use dietary filters? expand_more

1. Open the Search screen
2. Tap the filter icon (usually in the top-right)
3. Select your dietary preferences:
• Vegan
• Vegetarian
• Gluten-Free
• Lactose-Free
• Exclude allergens (nuts, soy, eggs, fish, shellfish, pork)
4. Products will be filtered to match your selections

Price Comparison & Savings

What is the "Split Trip" feature? expand_more

Split Trip is Tarkka's smart optimization feature (Pro only). It analyzes your shopping list and calculates whether you can save money by buying certain items at one store and other items at a different store.

Example: "Buy coffee and pasta at Prisma (€12.50), and diapers and milk at K-Citymarket (€18.30). Total: €30.80. You save €6.20!"

The app shows you exactly which items to buy at each store and how much you'll save.

Why are some prices blurred? expand_more

Individual product prices are blurred for Free users. This is a Pro feature. Free users can still see:
• Which store has the lowest total cost
• The total basket price at each store
• Which products are on sale

Upgrade to Tarkka Pro to see all individual prices unblurred.

How often are prices updated? expand_more

Prices are updated daily from retailer websites. However, please note:
• In-store prices are always final - always check shelf prices when shopping
• Sale prices and special offers are updated regularly but may vary
• Availability can change - a product in our database might be out of stock in stores

Both plans include a 7-day free trial. Prices include VAT and may vary slightly by country.

How do I cancel my subscription? expand_more

Subscriptions are managed by your device's app store, not within Tarkka:

iOS (iPhone/iPad):
1. Go to Settings on your device
2. Tap your name at the top
3. Tap Subscriptions
4. Select Tarkka
5. Tap Cancel Subscription

Android:
1. Open Google Play Store
2. Tap your profile icon (top-right)
3. Go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions
4. Select Tarkka
5. Tap Cancel subscription

How do I restore my purchases on a new device? expand_more

1. Install Tarkka on your new device
2. Go to Settings
3. Tap "Restore Purchases"
4. Your Pro subscription will be restored automatically if you're using the same App Store/Google Play account

No need to purchase again!

Privacy & Data

What data does Tarkka collect? expand_more

Very little! Tarkka is designed privacy-first:

We DO NOT collect:
• Your name, email, or phone number
• Account credentials (no login required)
• Precise GPS location
• Your shopping list contents
• Purchase history or payment information

We DO collect (minimal):
• Device type and OS version (for app optimization)
• App usage statistics (aggregated and anonymized)
• Crash reports (to fix bugs)

Is my shopping list saved in the cloud? expand_more

No! Your shopping list is stored locally on your device only. It never leaves your phone. If you uninstall the app or clear app data, your shopping list will be deleted. There's no cloud backup because Tarkka doesn't have user accounts or cloud storage.

Does Tarkka track my purchases? expand_more

Absolutely not. Tarkka has no way of knowing what you actually buy at stores. The app only knows what products you've added to your shopping list on your device. We don't track purchases, transactions, or shopping behavior.

Troubleshooting

The app won't load prices expand_more

Try these solutions:
1. Check your internet connection - Tarkka needs internet to fetch prices
2. Make sure you've selected stores - Go to Settings → My Stores and select at least one store
3. Restart the app - Close completely and reopen
4. Update the app - Check App Store/Play Store for updates

Barcode scanner isn't working expand_more

Common fixes:
1. Grant camera permission - Go to your device Settings → Apps → Tarkka → Permissions → Enable Camera
2. Ensure good lighting - Barcode scanning works best in well-lit areas
3. Hold steady - Keep the camera still and center the barcode in frame
4. Clean your camera lens - Smudges can affect scanning
5. Try a different barcode - Some barcodes may be damaged or unreadable

How do I change the app language? expand_more

Tarkka supports English, Finnish, and Swedish:
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap "Language"
3. Select your preferred language:
• English (EN)
• Suomi (FI)
• Svenska (SV)
4. The app will switch immediately
